Niche Product Marketing

What is Niche Product Marketing?

Niche Product Marketing (also known as niche marketing) is one of the most straight forward ways to get started on the internet.

Niche product marketing is, to put it simply, taking a product and marketing that product to a specific relevant niche.

The key to niche product marketing is understanding the definition of a niche as it relates to internet marketing. The word niche comes from the Old French word nichier meaning to nest.

If you look up the dictionary definition it gives 2 meanings

  1. A recess in a wall for a statue or ornament.
  2. A position exactly suitable for the person occupying it.

However a niche market for the purposes of niche product marketing is a group of people who are passionate about a certain subject. So for example dog lovers would be a niche, as would golfers.

Now these 2 examples are niches in the broadest of terms and if you do a search on Google for the keyword "golf" you get well over 350 million sites. You certainly don't want to try niche product marketing with that much competition. Instead you need to start looking for a niche within a niche - for example lady golfers or left handed golfers, which will bring up far fewer competing web sites.

But before you put your creative head on and think I've got a fantastic idea for a product on "How to Coach the Left Handed Golfer" or the like, the first rule of marketing is to find a hungry market and find out what they want - not I repeat NOT what you think they want. Only when you have done your market research can you go about creating (or having created for you) your niche product.

Researching your Niche Market

So how do you go about researching your market? Well in the good old days there was the Overture Search Engine tool which was taken over a few years ago by Yahoo. This tool was a God send to internet marketers as it was absolutely free to use and would give you an idea of how many people searched on a the key word you put in and on related key words. Sadly this search tool is no more so lets look at the alternatives:

Free tools

I've only just come across this tool from SEOBook.com but what I like about it is that it gives search result numbers from all the major search engines and links out to their search tools.

Other free keyword search tools are:

http://www.google.com/trends - shows you search traffic over periods of time and also by country so you can see if there are seasonal or geographic differences in searches for your keywords.

http://freekeywords.wordtracker.com/ - A great starter tool for finding out the number of searches on your keyword and for getting related keywords.

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal - shows you in pictorial form number of searches and level of competition. Also has a great site related keywords function where you can put in the URL of a site and it will give you a list of keywords relating to the content of the site.

Free Vs Paid Keyword Research Tools

All these tools are useful for starting your search for relevant keywords for your niche product marketing. If you are really serious though you need to invest in a paid service which will give you much more scope for finding the right keywords and digging for key word phrases for your niche product marketing.

The best two on the market are Wordtracker and Keyword Discovery.

Wordtracker is a very solid tool and has the advantage of being able to purchase membership from as little as one day, through one week, one month and annually. Annually works out the most cost effective option if you are going to use it regularly but if you have done some research using the free tools and have a narrowed down list of niche markets to go after then you could opt for the one day option and get some great research done. All your results can be exported out to Excel or email.

To find out more visit the Wordtracker site.

Wordtracker

Keyword Discovery describes itself as the most advanced keyword tool available and will tell you both the search terms people are searching on and as well as the terms competitors are using to drive traffic to their sites. To do this it compiles its information from over 180 search engines world wide. It also offers features such as keyword trending, spelling and industry keywords. The downside to all this extra functionality is that its more expensive than Wordtracker so if you are on a tighter budget probably something you want to look at later on down the line.

For more information visit the Keyword Discovery site.

Keyword Discovery from Trellian Software

I hope the information above has given you some insight into niche product marketing. If you are serious about becoming successful on the internet I highly recommend you take a look at the Immediate Edge. Only people who are willing to turn their Internet business into a huge success should apply! - Check it out below now.
